Believe it or not, it's actually a classic California story...
Bush Knew About Katrina - What A Shock!
People who don't watch the Weather Channel knew what Hurricane Katrina was going to do. Little babies in their cribs knew. Even Bill O'Reilly knew New Orleans was in big trouble and his dumb ass doesn't know anything! So, gee, what a shock, the Bush Administration has been lying to us again. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but to lay what happened to New Orleans at his feet and the feet of state officials is dishonest, corrupt and downright sociopathic.
Bush's approval ratings are at an all time low of 34%. I'm wondering--who the hell is the 34%?! What is wrong with those people?
My Essential Desert Island Discs
Now, as we all know from watching Lost on ABC, if you're on a desert island, it's good to make sure it has a record player and some hatches with cozy, retro furniture in it. This will make the time passed stranded on a desert island go by faster and you'll have plenty of time to appreciate all the nuances and intricacies of the music you brought with you/found in the creepy hatch.
Of course, if you've never watched Lost, you have no idea what I'm talking about and you're probably wondering why you would bring a bunch of music you couldn't listen to on doomed transpacific air flight anyway. Without further adieu, my choices*, in no particular order, subject to change when I have more time to reflect upon this list, with the caveat that you can't have more than four discs from any one artist and you are only allowed up to two greatest hits albums:
Songs In the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder
Innervisions, Stevie Wonder
1999, Prince
Kind of Blue, Miles Davis
Love Supreme, John Coltrane
The Lion, Youssou N'Dour
Nevermind, Nirvana
Purple Rain, Prince
The Best Best of Fela Kuti
Rumors, Fleetwood Mac
Bitches' Brew, Miles Davis
Mingus Ah Um, Charles Mingus
Live at Folsom Prison, Johnny Cash
Nothing Like The Sun, Sting
Synchronicity, The Police
"Star Time" Box Set, James Brown ("the only other greatest hits collection allowed, because JB was a singles' artists and I've gotta have some funk on that island...")
I've Never Loved Another Man The Way That I Loved You, Aretha Franklin
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Like A Prayer, Madonna
This Is Shelby Lynne
Black Star, Black Star
Reflections Eternal, Talib Kweli & Hi Tek
Arizona Bay, Bill Hicks ("because you'll need laughs on that desert island...")
Tracy Chapman
So, Peter Gabriel
Ten Summoners' Tales, Sting
Sign O' The Times, Prince
Tidal, Fiona Apple
Debut, Bjork
Post, Bjork
Live at the Newport Jazz Fest, Dizzy Gillespie
Fear of a Black Planet, Public Enemy
A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay
OK Computer, Radiohead
Still Bill, Bill Withers
Odelay, Beck
Graceland, Paul Simon
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel
Skylarking, XTC
Yellow Moon, The Neville Brothers
Voodoo, D'Angelo ("please come back from jail D'Angelo! You've been missed...")
Watermelon Man, Herbie Hancock
Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Red Hot Chili Peppers ("a very personal choice...one of the albums I most associate with college - good for reminiscing...")
The Healer, John Lee Hooker & Friends
* - Including the two multidisc greatest hits collections, that's 50 albums by my count. I was going to do 101 desert island discs, but it was hard enough and time consuming enough just coming up with these!
Follow my rules and send in your own list--at least ten albums, no more than 50--and it will definitely give me more food for thought and more music to explore. Whether I'm shipwrecked or not.
Until next time...peace.

Congratulations on getting married!!!
Here's a wedding present...Bill Hicks you've never heard before...I know the beginning will sound familiar...but this is like 3 days after Bill was cancelled/censored from Letterman...this show was thought to be lost...but an audience member had recorded it...
