Philo T. Farnsworth invented the Devil Box, or television, around 1926. It was introduced to a mass audience at the New York World's Fair (remember those?) in 1939.
A Review in 100 Words or Less: Good Night and Good Luck.
George Clooney takes a big leap forward with his second effort behind the camera, this time a gorgeously shot black-and-white depiction of the heady days at CBS News when Edward R. Murrow (a dead-on David Straithairn) took on and eventually helped to bring down the red-baiting Congressman from Wisconsin Joseph McCarthy (essentially playing himself in old footage). The screenplay is a bit dry, but the performances are impressive and the message is as timely as ever in one of this year's sharpest films. My grade: A- Politically oriented films to look for soon: Jarhead, Syriana, All The King's Men.
