ODDS & ENDS 7.16.05

For the weekend just a few random thoughts and observations to consider:

--If there are any NHL fans out there (all two of you) I beg you not to automatically start watching the games on TV or to fork over your hard-earned cash to go in person until the league demonstrates to you that they actually give a damn about you. Make them beg. Make them send flowers. Make them enact rules changes that will speed up the game and increase scoring. See if they lower ticket prices. Don't come crawling back to them like some lovesick puppy. Be tough, demand the house key back and don't answer their phones for a while. In the end you'll thank me and maybe there will be at least one pro sports league that gives a damn where it's dollars come from and works hard to earn them.

--As the facts increasingly come out and the Bush Administration goes into its shell, it's obvious that Karl Rove is both a traitor and a liar. But of course he will keep his job because if he left there would be no Bush Administration. He really is George's brain--and his balls. The controversy will help to cripple the last three years of Bush's already listing lame-duck administration. Those who want an end to our full on occupation of Iraq should keep up the full court press to get us out of there.

--WEDDING CRASHERS is probably the funniest movie that will be released by a Hollywood studio this year so go right on out and see it. Vince Vaughn is at his funniest and Owen Wilson is his perfect comic foil. And the movie isn't all gags and one-liners either--it's got heart. For a good online review of the movie, check out picklechick's blog. (My grade: A)

Daily Diary Notes
FRIDAY
Sweets consumed: finished off a jar of jellybeans and also had two chocolate chip cookies at work and a chocolate chip muffin. All in all though, a better day than most.

Celebrities seen in person: there was some d-level TV star in the Sherman Oaks Galleria last night, but since I only recognize the face and can't recall his name it's scarcely worth mentioning.

Movies seen?: Yes, the Wedding Crashers (see mini review above).

Number of confirmed U.S. casualties in Iraq: 2 (at least 31 Iraqi's died in car bombings)

SATURDAY
Key tasks to perform: Get haircut, pick up contacts, memorize lines for theater group (might push that off to Sunday as g.f. is out of town).

Thanks for spending some time with me. Talk to you next on Monday or Tuesday...

Peace.
