Only in Denver could a meaningless first preseason game get more analysis and impassioned talk show discussion than the state's current budget crisis, the Rockies playoff run and President Obama's town hall in Grand Junction--combined.

I really enjoyed the movie GRAN TORINO directed by Clint Eastwood, who seems to get better every year even though he's 78, but I wish it had been less predictable and obvious at times.

Why is it that so many people believe that the greatest patriots are only the ones who are sent and fight to die for this country? Servicemen and women should not be presumed to be more patriotic than people who try to raise their children the right way, or hardworking Americans who make it a point to make an informed vote in every election.

In order for the United States to survive as a global superpower and the most culturally influential country on the planet, we will have to someday realize that our primary values cannot be based around the acquisition of money and the promulgation of the Judeo-Christian religious mythology. You can't take the former with you (and it won't nourish your soul) and to the latter point, most of the world doesn't follow that belief system and cannot be won over if they're told that accepting that system is their only path to salvation.
