I haven't posted anything since August 5th and I feel both lazy and somewhat full of contempt for not commenting on the million or so things that are currently going on in the world. So tonight, I'm gonna just riff on a few things that have crossed my mind since the last blog. Fast and furious, bear with me and feel free to share your thoughts:
***I'm not sure Michael Phelps is human. You just know that every time Phelps gets into a pool it's going to rain gold and he'll be the only one who gets wet. Wow, that analogy sucks.
***Russia invades the Republic of Georgia (no, not Jimmy Carter's home state) to "free" the Ossetians who want to be a part of Russia. Hmmm...does anyone else smell a whiff of Russian imperialism in the air?
***How could I work for a television news station in Denver and not be able to get anywhere near the convention? Oh yeah, that's right--I'm not one of the privileged few delegates, not in the Secret Service and I'm not a credentialed reporter. Maybe I should be a protester. At least then I'd get to the "protest cages".
***Alicia Sacramone, I feel for you...now pick yourself up and show up for the individual competition.
***If someone can tell me the difference between John Edwards' "videographer" and a call girl then I'm all ears.
***Was Morgan Freeman getting a "special gift" from his wife's best friend while driving that made him roll his car over on that Mississippi highway? I normally don't trade in gossip, but usually when your spouse of "x" number of years is in the hospital in critical condition you don't file for divorce.
***There is no way the Colorado Rockies will make another playoff run this year. Ditto the Denver Broncos.
***I downloaded XTC's SKYLARKING album (circa 1986) the other day (I threw out my old cassette when we moved to Denver) and I was immediately reminded of what a genius pop band they were in their heyday. I think this is one of the ten best albums of the 80's. "Dear God" indeed...
***My one comment on the upcoming Emmys: ignoring for a moment the fact that the television voters all but ignored the greatest drama series of all time (THE WIRE), and the greatest sci-fi drama of all time (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), if they compound those mistakes by not honoring Jon Hamm's work as Don Draper in MAD MEN then they might as well just never have a damn Emmy show again.
My time is up, you've been a great audience. Help me choose the topic for my next blog. Choose from among the titles below--the one with the most votes wins. If there are no votes, or a tie, I get to choose. It's democracy in action and there's no Electoral College:
Vote 1) Remembering Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac
Vote 2) The Nudie Nudie Porno Sex Blog
Vote 3) The Secret Diary of John McCain
Peace...
