ME ME ME ME ME ME ME...

Ah, the blogosphere. As I get (a little bit) older, I find myself more and more distracted from the all-important, all-consuming task of blogging. I find it harder to be passionate about it, but more importantly it gets harder to keep from repeating myself. The cardinal sin of any blogger is to be boring and I'm afraid that at times these posts just get tedious and dull.

I could post more pictures, either from my life or from found sources on the Internet, but sometimes that seems to be more work than just sitting down and composing an online diary--which is, of course, how blogging began. And what pictures would I post? The same paparazzi photos that a lot of other people write about? Boring pictures from my daily life ("here's R brushing his teeth in the morning...here's Sammy the Cat destroying the couch")? I want--no, I DEMAND--more from myself so that on the off chance anyone stumbles across these posts, they hopefully come away thinking one of the following:

a) that wasn't a COMPLETE waste of my time
b) well, I've never heard anyone say THAT before or
c) this guy is a really good writer. I could use his talents in my online magazine!

Here's how self-critical I am: a few weeks ago I had to go in for a colonoscopy because I have some anemia, which is unusual for a man my age, and I also had some occasional discomfort after eating. My hypochondriacal self actually thought I might have colon cancer (don't worry, I don't) but the sick part is that a part of me was secretly rooting for it, as long as it wasn't too far along, so that I could do an online diary of my treatment and eventual triumph over the disease. Isn't that sick? In hindsight, I'd rather not have the cancer and I'll just have to force myself to be a little more creative on the blogging front so that I don't bore myself or any of my readers.

Or I could Bush Bash every week and count the days until Barack Obama becomes America's first African-American president and probably have a blog that gets a lot more attention. So it goes...

Peace.
