A good friend of mine once vehemently argued why they thought that President Dubya Bush was only playing at being dumb, that he's actually very smart and very cunning and, most importantly, very evil as he pushes his neoconservative, quasi-evangelical imperial ambitions. Maybe...but wouldn't an "evil genius" president recognize that you can't go into a press conference talking about sending more troops to Iraq and "winning the war" when 72 percent of the electorate disapprove of your handling of the Iraq crisis and almost as many people believe we should at least reduce our number of troops and beginning planning (for the first time) our exit strategy? Wouldn't there be some dissembling, some sleight-of-hand, some WMD-style puffery to the message to throw a bone to the masses while you secretly plotted to kick the Iraq War up a notch?
No, not our President. He's a true Believer. He really thinks that putting more troops on the ground and ignoring the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group is the way to go. He's the Great Decider, not the Great Reader, dammit! And this is what makes him so much more dangerous to the future of this country then if he actually was smart and misguided. There's nobody more earnest than the person who doesn't know better and that's why as long as Bush is in office, America's soul and its future will continue to be in mortal danger. 2008 can't come soon enough.

Thanks "J" (I know who you are and please keep reading!) for your list of top five rappers. I can't argue with them (even with Weird Al--he's got mad skillz, yo) and it's a debate that could certainly go on for a while with no clear cut answer. I checked out Nas' new CD the other night and you can make an argument for him as well.
Keep checking this site fellow bloggers and readers and I promise to get you my Music Picks of 2006 real soon. Until then,
Peace...
