FRIDAY PLACEHOLDER

Hey out there in blogland! All of you who use Blogger.com to host your blog have had a frustrating couple of days trying to post...good luck to you all.

Movie reviews are coming, but today I thought I'd do a "placeholder blog", compiling some random thoughts and irrelevant information for others to peruse while I gather my thoughts for the big blogs. Besides, I'm at work and don't want to get in trouble!

What I'm Listening To...

Favorite new albums so far this year: We Have Sound, Tom Vek; Stadium Arcadium, Red Hot Chili Peppers; How We Operate, Gomez; Surprise, Paul Simon.

Favorite downloaded singles: "Promiscuous", Nelly Furtado & Timbaland; "Hips Don't Lie", Shakira & Wyclef Jean; "Charlie Patton Songs", Gomez; "The Long Way Home", The Dixie Chicks (song of the year so far); "Goldlines", The Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Hypocrites of the Year (1st Half)

Major league baseball's Colorado Rockies, not so loveable losers for most of their 14-year existence, went public with their supposed strategy of trying to draft, sign and keep players who are devout Christians or at least "Christian-friendly". "We think character is important," said co-owner Charlie Monfort, "and we don't feel like we have to apologize for that."

Only...Monfort and his brother (featured prominently in the best-selling book Fast Food Nation) are known for lax standards at their meat processing plants and stockyards and for firing all the employees at their Greeley, CO plant when they tried to unionize several years ago. Very Christian. Also, the whole "finding players of good character" and "supporting a Christian clubhouse" thing masks the fact that the Monforts are very penurious owners and this allows them to seek out lower cost players that will fit into the clubhouse instead of building a team with the best talent possible.

Star player Todd Helton admits, "We're dirtbags like everyone else...you don't have to be Christian to play here." Noble sentiment, but then why bring it up at all?

You can't have your communion wafer and eat it too guys.

Until later...peace.
